Dear all,
Here I am, honouring my promise to NUS - A blog about my study exchange experiences in Hong Kong.

This is The University of Hong Kong's (HKU) Main Building. Does the design of this building not remind you of some ancient building? Well, let me give you some history of HKU.
The University is founded in 1910 - the birth of Hong Kong's first tertiary institution. In December 1916, the University held its first congregation, with just 23 graduates.
It was ten years after the founding of HKU that women students were admitted for the first time. In 1937, Queen Mary Hospital opened and has served as the University's teaching hospital since that time.
Up to today, it is now Hong Kong's largest tertiary-level institution for continuing education with cumulative enrolment totalling more than one million students.
Therefore, I am pretty sure I will be able to gain some quality education over here, together with some cultural exchange and interaction with the local students. I will definitely enjoy my semester here! So dear friends, enjoy along with me! =)

20th September - My First TutorialI had already finalized on my modules. Will be taking 3 of my major subject, and 2 Unrestricted Electives, or rather inter-faculty broadening courses from what is known here.
SOCI 0064 Globalization and the Information Society: myths, facts and emerging patternsThis module undertake a critical examination of the ideas of globalization and information society. It is 100% coursework, meaning no exams.
SOCI0011 Gender and CrimeThis course assess assumptions and the gendered ways of social control policies. For instance, women who engage in illegal activities typically acquire a 'double deviant status'; they are perceived to be violating legal codes as well as gender proscriptions. I have exams for this. 40%.
SOCI0060 Fraud, Corruption and computer crimeThis course talks about the nature of crimes commited by white-collar people. 60% exams!
JMSC0101 Principles of journalism and the news mediaAllows us to explore how journalists collect, process and deliver information. Enables me to know more about HK's media and related organizations. 100% courseworkBUSI0034 Human Resource: theory and practiceA business module to understand HRM and corporate strategy, human resource planning, recruitment and selection etc etc. 20% exams!Alright, all in all, I have 3 examinable modules! So many! I would like to take all coursework modules, so that I would have no exams, and then I can go travelling! But, well, too bad.
Anyway, I have quite a few field trips for my sociology modules. For my gender and crime module, I would be going to Hong Kong's jails! How interesting! A visit to the males and females jails. Well, I've not even been to Changi's jail! Haha. Another fieldtrip (For my fraud and corruption module) would be to visit police stations and ICAC. I bet you guys heard about HK's ICAC in HK serials right? How cool, I can't wait!
Had my first tutorial today. The way they have tutorial is slightly different from how NUS hold their tutorial sessions. The tutorials have fewer students, and much more interactive. There are about 15 or less students per class, and all of us have to sit around a huge table. It is like how big offices hold their meetings. And there we hold our tutorial discussions. Very interactive because everyone can see each other, yet on the other hand, a little stressed. You must definitely go there prepared! Unlike NUS, you can still hide at the back huh? Haha.
